The company
A small company, and intentionally so.
We protect a limited number of private homes. That limit is deliberate, and it is what makes the rest of our approach possible.
Why the company exists
The security industry has a persistent gap at the domestic end of the market. The firm that installs an alarm knows little about the network over which it signals. The firm that installed the broadband has not considered whether the router can be reached from outside the property. Each is technically correct that the other’s work falls outside its remit, and the gap between them is where a considerable number of household incidents begin.
FlexiScan was established to close that gap at a domestic scale. We survey, design, install and maintain the physical measures — alarms and cameras — and we carry out the digital work that supports them. The same people, a single proposal, and one point of responsibility.
Why we remain small
Because growth would come at the client’s expense. Every household we accept is surveyed by the person who will design the system and installed by the person who carried out the survey. That model does not scale, and we are not attempting to make it do so.
It also limits what we hold. A short client list is a short list of properties whose weaknesses we understand in detail, which is a significant responsibility and a significant liability if handled carelessly. Fewer clients means fewer records, fewer people with access to them, and a smaller body of information to defend.
What we will not do
We will not provide a quotation before we have surveyed the property. We will not install equipment we would not install in our own homes. We will not publish a client’s name, address, photograph or system details in any form — whether as a case study, on social media, or to a prospective client — without express permission. And we will not accept more work than we can complete properly, which occasionally means advising an enquirer that we are unable to begin until later in the year.
Our principles
Four commitments we hold ourselves to
Confidentiality
What we learn about a property remains between the client and this company. No case studies, no client list, no photographs, and no exceptions without express permission.
Candour
Including where it costs us the work. A significant proportion of the proposals we issue recommend less than the client originally requested.
Diligence
We treat every property as we would our own, which shows principally in unglamorous places: cable routes, made-good penetrations, and orderly handovers.
Continuity
The same personnel from the initial survey through to long-term servicing. You will not be asked to explain your property twice.
Our people
We publish no information about our staff. No names, no photographs, no biographies and no job titles. For a company whose proposition rests on discretion, publishing a list of the individuals who hold detailed knowledge of clients’ homes would be difficult to justify.
It also removes the raw material for the most effective form of approach against a household of this kind: a caller who already knows a genuine name at the company that installed your alarm is a considerable distance towards being believed.
You will of course meet us. You will know exactly who is attending your property and when, we will confirm it in advance through a channel agreed beforehand, and the same personnel will return on each occasion.
Vetting
Every individual who attends a client property is screened before doing so: identity, right to work, employment history, and criminal records checks appropriate to the role, repeated at intervals rather than carried out once at appointment.
We do not use agency or casual labour. Should anyone unexpected present themselves as representing FlexiScan, they are not.
Our full vetting standard, accreditations, insurance documents and client references are provided privately on request.
Credentials
Accreditations
We hold the accreditations a residential security company in the United Kingdom is expected to hold, and we maintain them by annual inspection rather than by a single assessment at the outset. Our installation work is carried out to the current British and European standards — principally BS EN 50131 for intruder alarm systems, BS 8418 and BS EN 62676 for surveillance, and the relevant parts of BS 7671 for the electrical work — and we design to the grade the property and its insurer require rather than to the grade that is quickest to install.
We do not publish which bodies certify us, or our registration numbers, on this website. Taken together with a client list they would describe how a protected property is likely to be built, monitored and signalled. That is a convenience to nobody except somebody planning to defeat it.
They are, however, freely available to anyone with a proper reason to see them. Ask through the enquiry form and we will provide full certificates, the scope each one covers, our public liability and professional indemnity insurance documents and our data protection registration — normally within one working day.
Verify us independently
Where a certification body maintains a public register, we will give you our registration details so that you can confirm our status on that register yourself, rather than taking a certificate we have sent you at face value.
We would encourage you to do exactly that, and to do it with any company you invite into your home. A certificate is a PDF; a register entry is evidence.
The same applies to the accredited monitoring and response providers we work with. Their accreditations are provided on request alongside our own.
Evidence
Client references
There are no testimonials on this website, and there will not be. A quotation attributed to “M., Surrey” tells you nothing that could be verified, and a quotation attributed to a full name and a village tells a stranger which household has a system worth reading about.
What we offer instead is a reference you can actually use. On request we will ask existing clients whose property and requirements resemble yours whether they are willing to speak to you, and if they agree we will introduce you. You then ask them whatever you like, without us present.
Nobody is approached without being asked first, no client’s details are passed on without their express permission on each occasion, and a client who declines is never asked again. That is why a reference takes a few days rather than arriving attached to a quotation.
What you can ask for
- An introduction to a client with a comparable property, subject to their agreement.
- A redacted specification and handover pack from a previous installation, with every identifying detail removed.
- A written trade reference from a supplier, insurer or the monitoring provider we work with.
- Our accreditation certificates and insurance documents, as above.
