FlexiScan Security

Domestic cyber security has an unhelpful reputation, largely because it is usually sold as software. An antivirus subscription is installed on one laptop and the matter is considered closed, while the router retains its factory password, the backups have never been tested, and the household’s email addresses appear in a dozen breach records.

We approach it as a survey, in the same manner as the physical work. What is actually connected to this property? What could be reached by someone who gained access to the wireless network? What happens if a laptop is stolen, a phone is lost, or a ransomware demand appears on the family computer on a Sunday evening?

What an engagement typically covers

  • A survey of everything connected, rather than everything believed to be connected
  • Router and wireless hardening, with guest and device networks separated
  • Security cameras and smart devices isolated from household computers
  • Device protection, update management and encryption across the household
  • Multi-factor authentication on the accounts that would be damaging to lose
  • Backup design, followed by a tested restoration
  • Managed disposable email addresses, as set out below

Indicative only. Every specification is prepared for an individual property following a survey; we do not work from fixed packages.

How we tailor it to you

We work with equipment you already own wherever it is safe to do so, and we are explicit about anything that is not — most often a router or camera that has not received a security update in several years.

The remainder of the work concerns the household itself. We spend time on what a convincing approach now looks like, because technical measures only buy time if somebody can still be persuaded to hand over a code.

Disposable email addresses

An email address functions as the username for most of modern life. Once it has been supplied to several hundred websites, it is only a matter of time before one of them is breached and the address enters circulation — and from there it feeds the phishing and credential-stuffing attempts directed at every other account you hold.

A managed alias service breaks that chain. Each registration receives its own unique address, forwarding quietly to your existing inbox. If one begins to attract unwanted mail, you know precisely which organisation released it, and that single alias can be withdrawn without affecting anything else.

  • A unique alias for each website, service or supplier
  • Silent forwarding to your existing inbox, with no new mailbox to monitor
  • Immediate withdrawal of any alias that begins to attract unwanted mail
  • Clear attribution, so that a leak is always traceable to its source
  • Replies sent from the alias, so your real address is never exposed
  • Shared aliases for the household where appropriate

We configure the service, migrate your highest-risk accounts in a sensible order, and leave you able to issue and withdraw addresses yourself in a matter of seconds.
